“When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars that you have established; O Lord, our Sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth!” Psalm 8: 3, 9
God’s works unfold in the seven Creation Windows. Moving from the west (back) of the sanctuary, we see The Beginning, The Separation of the Firmament, Son and Moon and Animal Life. In the sixth window, Adam, Eve and Child, we see suggestions of the human family (father, mother and child in contemporary blue jeans) and the holy family (Joseph, Mary and Jesus). Mary, sheltered by Joseph’s arm, holds in her hand the cross with the orb of the world. The Holy Family-human family remind us of the triumph of the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ throughout the earth and in every age.
The final window, The Trinity, reminds us that all of creation portrayed in the preceding windows is by the God who has three ways of being God: Creator, Redeemer, Sanctifier. In the upper right corner we see the hands of the giver Creator. In the center is the cross of Christ triumphant over the world, and the small alpha and omega. He is in the beginning and the end of creation, redemption and the consummation of history. Over all the figure of the Holy Spirit, who accomplishes the work of the Father and the Son in the world, appears in majesty.
Repeated inspections of these Creation Windows will bring new discoveries and insight for people of faith.
